EL LIBANO
Acatenango, CHIMALTENANGO

El Líbano coffee farm is located in a traditional Guatemalan coffee region La Pampa, Acatenango, Chimaltenango; its owner is Mr. Herbert Estuardo Pérez Liquidano, third generation handling de property. This coffee farm has an extension of 21 hectares, cultivated with red and yellow Arabic coffee, bourbon, élite 14, tekisik, pache, pache coliz, Caturra and catuaí.

First’s farm name was La Pampa and Mr. Prudencio Pérez Rosales bought it approximately in 1915. After his death the property was divided in three, giving rise to three properties: La Pampa, San Juan and El Líbano, managed by Mr. Mariano Pérez Meléndez. In 1992 El Líbano was bought by its actual owner, Mr. Herbert Estuardo Pérez Liquidano.

In 1940 they started seeding coffee varieties like arabicas and bourbons. At the beginning, coffee was commercialized in cherry with other farms or buyers whom took it into closer wet mills for the post harvest process.

When coffee production at the farm increased, between 1958 and 1960, it was built the wet mill in the low part of the farm and in the high the drying fields. At that time, coffee was taken by workers, in mules from the pulping area to the drying fields, through a narrow road, which made work difficult. Later, in 1970, this was extended and thanks to coffee sale, they bought a vehicle for substituting the mules.

Actually there are some changes and constructions that have been done in the property, to improve quality and modernize the wet mill coffee process, in the pulping area and in the drying process.

In the drying area, they have increased the drying patios, and actually it also has a guardiola dryer, which has the capacity of processing 40 quintales (4 kilos) of coffee.

Besides produce quality coffee, in El Libano it’s important the social responsibility with our workers, we provided them with equipped houses to live in the farm. We also have two modern swimming pools for workers and families. Recently, Mr. Mariano Pérez, donated the land where is the Rural School and other for the Catholic Church from La Pampa village.

Actually the farm still works as a familiar farm, it means, without divisions for every owner, that’s why they realize their certifications under the name of FINCA LA PAMPA Y ANEXOS (FINCA EL LIBANO Y FINCA SAN JUAN)

Certifications: Rainforest Alliance C.A.F.E. Practices 4C: Common Code for Coffee Community
