Hacienda Carmona, is located in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez. It is a high altitude farm that produces the Genuine Antigua Café Pulcal. The farm is managed by Maria Zelaya Aguirre since 1959, and she is the third generation that works in Hacienda Carmona.
History goes back to 1541, when Don Juan de Carmona came to Guatemala with the Spanish conqueror Don Pedro de Alvarado and start cultivating a variety of agricultural products. Since the latest 1800’s the farm was acquired by the Zelaya family. At this time Arabica coffee was planted and exported for the first time in 1918.
Genuine Antigua “Café Pulcal” is planted in Hacienda Carmona. The coffee plantation, in order to maintain the high quality, continues to be planted with varieties Bourbon and Arabica Typica. This plantation is located in a unique microclimate which enhances the productivity of the coffee plants.
Café Pulcal is processed and washed in the most traditional manner, using crystal clear spring water of the mountains. Many experts have regarded this coffee among the finest coffee produced anywhere in the world, due to the even size of the bean, balance, acidity and body.
