La Igualdad has been producing coffee for at least 100 years. Around 1925, German immigrant Phillip Weller bought the farm with other partners.
His daughter Lucy Weller took charge of the farm at an early age due to WW II , when Germans assets were confiscated in Guatemala. Lucy recovered the farm after the war and made of it one of the best kept farms in the country, with exceptional quality and quantity throughout her 60 years in charge.
After 20 years of working with Doña Lucy, Federico Weller (Lucy´s nephew) has continued the tradition of la Igualdad. He has undertaken the new challenges of certification with international programs to ensure the farm meets the gourmet customer expectations.
90 Hectares of rainforest have been registered with the government as Natural Reserve to ensure the nature of the land is preserved for future generations. This is the second time where La Igualdad makes it to the finals.
