A country with so much green must be blessed with abundant water–and
Guatemala is. Plentiful water flows into aquifers, over thirty-five
major rivers, and more than a thousand lakes and lagoons. More
than 85% of coffee farms within the primary water recharge areas.
Humidity coming from the oceans is trapped by the high volcanic
and mountain chain of the coffee growing regions. This moisture
is the converted into abundant rainfall ranges anywhere between
32 to 200 inches (800 to 5000 mm) a year.
All together, coffee forests in Guatemala contribute significantly
to water resources by supplying approximately 3 billion cubic
meters of water a year to the hydrologic cycle.
