Green Fact
Guatemalan Coffees are 98% shade grown.
This allows coffee beans to mature slowly, improving the attributes of body and acidity in the cup.

GoogleEarth integration demonstration video

Presented in Tokyo, Japan for the SCAJ 2007 Exhibition

This video demonstration shows how coffee farms will be integrated into our Coffee Search System (project under development). This system will display searching results in a web browser using the map technology provided by Google™Maps.

After finding the desired results, users will have access to a feature that will generate a file that can be added into a temporary information layer on Google™Earth application, which must be previously installed in the computer. This will allow users to have a more interactive experience virtually traveling to the origin.

Open tools, like this video, will help people worldwide understand and get to know more about our coffees and all the things surrounding its cultivation, making them really special. The goal of the project is to support traceability and commercial transparency to facilitate the buyer-to-producer communication, allowing coffee to be traced back to its origin and assuring that the premium prices paid are received by the farmers.

Video streaming is provided by www.youtube.com, one of the leading video sharing communities on the web these days.

The video demonstration is a tool to explain, and somehow show, the way a user will be able to navigate through Coffee Search System results, after importing them into Google™Earth application.

The sequence shows at first a view over the Big Sight Convention Center in Tokyo to give the audience a point of reference, the place where they are standing. The flight moves around the world to visit Guatemala, where our quality coffee grows.

After slowly landing through mountains and volcanoes, it gets closer to the valley of Antigua, indicating with a red line the geographic delineation of the Antigua Coffee region.

Zooming into the valley, a coffee estate, San Sebastián, is shown. As it works in Google™Earth, it displays a pop-up window with related information on the farm and characteristics of the coffee it produces; a link to the farm's website is provided to get more information.

The viewpoint starts to turn until Agua Volcano is reached by the "camera"; then, it moves straight to reach a small farm, Las Cruces. Information is shown on this farm along with a picture of "Don Marcos", the coffee producer. An email address, provided free of charge, gives the producer the possibility of getting in touch with a potential buyer.

In the end, a bird's eye view of the whole country helps remembering the place where "the best coffee in the world" is produced, Guatemala.
